Old coastal buildings beside the sea

Lamu

An old Swahili island. Narrow lanes, carved doors, dhows in the harbour and no hurry at all.

Lamu Old Town is one of the oldest Swahili settlements on the coast, and it still runs at the pace of a dhow. Days here are for walking the lanes, eating well and sailing at sunset.

It works as a stay of its own or as the last stop of a longer trip.
